Honoraria confirmed for FY26’s Committee

25 February 2026

  • FY26’s governance changes make the current honorarium policy outdated.

  • Committee approves payment in April of the NZ$12,000 budgeted honorarium.

  • Chair to receive NZ$5,875.

  • Two grounds subcommittee members to each receive NZ$1,750.

  • Three committee members will each receive NZ$875.

  • The payment can be declined by a Committee member.

Freemans Park’s Body Corporate Committee has approved the distribution of the NZ$12,000 honorarium for the 2026 financial year.

The Body Corporate’s current governance model differs from the structure in use since 2024, when the honorarium policy was adopted.

Presently, in addition to the Committee as a whole, there is only one Subcommittee (focused on grounds and comprising two Committee members), and the Chair of the Committee has taken on a significantly expanded leadership role across activities that are not handled by paid management.

Management led a consultation process with Committee members, as it had no conflict of interest in the honoraria. Following the consultation in January 2026, one member requested that their allocation be reallocated to the Chair to acknowledge the additional workload undertaken by him during the year. As a result, a revised payment model was adopted.

The Committee has agreed:

  • the Chair of the Body Corporate Committee will receive NZ$5,875

  • the two Grounds Subcommittee members will each receive NZ$1,750

  • the remaining three Committee members would receive NZ$875 each.

Payments are scheduled for April 2026, however the payment can be declined by a Committee member who does not wish to receive the token payment for their service.

The Committee has also requested that a draft honorarium policy be prepared that reflects the revised governance arrangements, which will be reviewed at the next Committee meeting.

Background:

If approved by owners at the AGM, an honorarium is paid to each Committee member, subject to the person agreeing to its receipt. The existing 2024 honorarium policy is now considered outdated following governance changes introduced in 2025/26. The 2024 honorarium policy ended the long-standing practice of allocating the full NZ$12,000 honorarium to the Chairperson of the Body Corporate and instead divided payments among the Committee Chair, Subcommittee Chairs and Committee Members.
