Mid-century modern signage and additional building numbers

25 February 2026

  • Freemans Park has replaced its ageing and damaged signage with new designs that reflect our mid-century modern heritage and identity.

  • The new signs use colour, size, and icons to indicate function (wayfinding, traffic, operations, emergency) and are presented in both English and te reo Māori, with translation support provided by Dame Naida Glavish.

  • The signage upgrade reinforces the image of a modern, well-maintained community.

  • Additional black steel street numbers have been installed on some star blocks to improve navigation for visitors and couriers, especially within the central car park.

Freemans Park’s damaged and deteriorating signs are gone – replaced with new ones that better reflect our mid-century modern heritage, who we are, and our location.

The size and colour of each new sign reflects its function, which is wayfinding, traffic, operations, or emergency.

They use easy-to-understand icons, and communicate in both English and te reo Māori. The Committee extends its special thanks to the celebrated Māori language advocate, Ngāti Whātua’s Dame Naida Glavish, who assisted us with the translations.

The new signage helps to reinforce the view that Freemans Park is a modern, well-maintained community.

The Committee has also taken the opportunity to install additional black steel street numbers on several star blocks, which should help both visitors and couriers navigate buildings – especially in the central car park area.
