Turn back time – terrazzo renewals and new lino

22 April 2025

  • Freemans Park’s star block terrazzo stairs are being refurbished by original specialists Giacon Terrazzo, with works staged over several years; beginning in FY26 at 81 Beresford St West, 62 Wellington St and 55 Hepburn St.

  • The Body Corporate is also replacing ageing and damaged vinyl flooring in star blocks and the 79 Beresford St West maisonette building.

  • A sustainable linoleum product (Tarkett 14172672) has been selected to complement existing colours and better conceal wear and scuffs.

  • Flooring upgrades will start with 55 Hepburn St and 79 Beresford St West, followed by 62 Wellington St, with works scheduled for late winter/early spring and completion by January 2026. Additional flooring upgrades will be scheduled and budgeted for in FY27.

As part of the Body Corporate’s ongoing investment in long-term maintenance, Freemans Park’s star blocks are having their terrazzo stairs refurbished and their ageing and damaged flooring replaced.

When the terrazzo was first done in the 1960s, the specialist work was completed by Giacon Terrazzo. Sixty years on, Giacon Terrazzo has once again been commissioned to restore our star block stairs.

The terrazzo refurbishment will be split across several financial years, with 81 Beresford St West, 62 Wellington St, and 55 Hepburn St to be the first buildings upgraded in FY26.

Another asset that has long been in the maintenance plan is the ageing, and in some cases damaged, vinyl flooring in the star blocks and the maisonette building at 79 Beresford St West.

The Committee has selected a more environmentally sustainable linoleum product – Tarkett 14172672 – to replace the existing vinyl, which complements the existing paint colours, tones well with the terrazzo stairs, and is sufficiently patterned to help hide scuffs and other markings.

The first two buildings to have the new lino will be 55 Hepburn St and 79 Beresford St West, as their current flooring is in a poor state, followed by 62 Wellington St. This flooring maintenance work is expected to be undertaken in late-Winter/early-Spring, and completed in January 2026. Additional flooring upgrades will be scheduled and budgeted for in FY27.
