Reducing our water consumption and costs
With annual water costs of around NZ$123,000 and rising, the Committee is exploring individual water metering for each unit. Evidence suggests it can reduce usage significantly while making charges fairer.
Increasing our parkland
Freemans Park is taking up a rare opportunity to expand and reshape its park-like grounds, thanks to Auckland Council’s decision to buy 11 flood-prone units, which are likely to be demolished.
Mid-century modern signage and additional building numbers
Freemans Park’s ageing and damaged signage has been replaced with new mid-century modern signs, which are designed to improve wayfinding, operations and transport knowledge – and reinforce our identity.
Basements upgraded and repurposed
Basements in all 14-unit star blocks have been cleared and transformed into secure electrical and storage hubs.
Upgrading the maisonette balconies
Freemans Park is upgrading 22 maisonette balconies to ensure they remain waterproof for our next 60 years. The works follow a detailed heritage specification, preserving their character while meeting modern performance standards.
